English Major
I chose Heidelberg because _I love the feel of a small school. Getting to know all of my classmates and professors is something I value and wouldn't necessarily have other places.
I majored in English because I have a strong passion for writing, and I knew that Heidelberg's English Department would be a supportive place to improve my skills.
A major challenge I encountered while at Heidelberg was Imposter Syndrome and I handled it by working closely with my professors.
The best opportunity I discovered at Heidelberg was the grad school opportunities from the connections I've made.
Outside of the classroom, I was involved in Zeta Theta Psi, Heid Babes, Sigma Tau Delta, Berg Allies, Morpheus Literary Magazine, and the Tiffin Community Non-Food Pantry.
The thing I'm most proud of about My Heidelberg accomplishments is that I've had the privilege of being the Editor-in-Chief of the Morpheus Literary Magazine for two years, during which I helped expand the group's involvement on campus while successfully publishing four issues, and discovering my passion for the publishing industry.
Faculty or staff mentors or advisors who impacted my ‘Berg experience are Dr. Barry Devine and Dr. Desi Matherly (I can't just choose one!) because they taught me not only how to improve my writing skills, but also taught me the importance of knowing myself and establishing healthy boundaries between academics and personal life.
My advice to new freshman me would be instead of trying to get in and get out, slow down and take it all in.
My favorite Heidelberg memory is hanging out with my senior year roommates for the first time right after we moved into our townhouse.
My plans after graduation are to attend graduate school to get my MFA in fiction writing and publishing.
